If you'd like to point a domain name that you have to a different domain name or subdomain, one way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain name being pointed loses all of its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it is redirected to. That way, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be directed to the Internet site that you have created, but it'll also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all the visitors from different subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain because this type of a record set up for the main domain address renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Website Hosting

Creating a CNAME record with our Linux cloud website hosting is quite simple. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section committed to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your account in just a few simple steps. You'll find a video tutorial inside the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature provides you with many possibilities - if you build a company site on our end, for instance, the staff can use their e-mails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to set up a site through a different provider which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, if you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you may set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and direct it to the main domain name, so all your clients are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.
